Chairman and President
Richard T. Perkin
Richard T. Perkin is chairman of The Perkin Fund, a family foundation that supports scientific research. He founded the VZV Research Foundation in 1991 as a result of his mother's struggle with shingles and PHN. Previously, Mr. Perkin was active in public media, including television documentary syndication. A graduate of Harvard College, Mr. Perkin is a trustee of The Juilliard School and the Wildlife Conservation Society, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Rockefeller University Council. He also serves on the Visiting Committee of Harvard University's Department of Astronomy and the Committee for Planetarium Policy at the American Museum of Natural History.

Mortimer Berkowitz III
Mortimer Berkowitz III has spent nearly twelve years in investment banking. In 1990, after serving as managing director in corporate finance for Merrill Lynch Capital Markets, Mr. Berkowitz became a founder and managing director of BPI Capital Partners, Inc., a private investment firm. He earned his B.A. degree cum laude from Harvard College and an M.B.A. in finance from the Columbia Graduate School of Business. Mr. Berkowitz is a director of Physician and Hospital Support Systems, Inc. and LMR Holdings, Inc.

Louis R. Gary
Louis R. Gary is chairman of the Manhattan Institute for Cancer Research, the Columbia University Seminars on National Health and Science Policy and on Cancer, the American Hospital of Paris Foundation and the Institute for Sports Medicine Research. He is also a governor of The New York and Presbyterian Hospitals.

John H. Manice
John H. Manice has been active in the life sciences for more than 20 years, initially at Merck & Co., Inc., and subsequently as a medical technology consultant. He is the founder of Medical Strategies, LTD, and is a partner at Strategen, Investment Bankers and Advisors to the Life Sciences Industry. Mr. Manice is a graduate of Boston University and holds an M.B.A. in finance from the Columbia Graduate School of Business. He serves on the board of Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, Inc. in New York City and is a member of the Columbia-Presbyterian Health Science Advisory Council.

James S. Marcus
James S. Marcus, presently a limited partner in Goldman, Sachs & Co., first joined this investment banking firm in 1956. He holds an A.B. magna cum laude from Harvard College and an M.B.A. with distinction from Harvard Business School. Mr. Marcus is a director of American Biltrite, Inc. and Kellwood Company, and chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lenox Hill Hospital. Mr. Marcus is also a trustee of: the Metropolitan Opera Association, Metropolitan Opera Guild, Channel Thirteen, American Composers Orchestra, Guild Hall, Animal Medical Center, Manhattan Theatre Club, The Juilliard School and the Alex Hillman Family Foundation.

Michael T. Martin
Michael T. Martin is president of SportsMark, Inc., a sports marketing agency that he founded in 1990. He spent the previous 20 years in senior management with the New York Jets, the World Football League and the New York Cosmos and its parent company, Warner Communications Inc. Mr. Martin also owns and operates a thoroughbred racing and breeding business. He is president of the board of The Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, and past president of the board of The Pennington School and Mote Marine Laboratory. Mr. Martin also serves on the boards of Very Special Arts, The Juilliard School and Phipps Houses.

Irving Sitnick
Irving Sitnick is a partner in the law firm of Moses & Singer LLP. He holds a B.A. from Brooklyn College, a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School and a masters of laws degree in taxation from New York University. Mr. Sitnick is a director of the Henry and Lucy Moses Fund, Inc. and a Trustee of the Lucy G. Moses Charitable Trust.

Nicholas S. Zoullas
Nicholas S. Zoullas is president of Norland Shipping & Trading Corporation. Formerly, he was with the maritime law firm of Burlingham, Underwood and Lord. Mr. Zoullas is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School. He is a member of various committees of Harvard University, co-chairman of the Visiting Committee of the Greek and Roman Department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and a member of the Visiting Committee of the Classical Department of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Mr. Zoullas is a member of the American Bureau of Shipping and the American Society of Naval Architects and a member of the Board of Directors of the American Hospital in Paris Foundation. He is a past director of the Seaman's Institute and past president of the Foundation for Depression and Manic Depression.

Joseph W. Strohsahl
Joseph W. Strohsahl was the founder and president of Incentive Associates, Inc., a developer of corporate incentive and motivational programs. Previously, he was an executive with Suburban Gas of Pomona, Calif. Mr. Strohsahl, a self-described "shingles survivor," established a network of fellow shingles patients on the West Coast to provide mutual support and information exchange, and to raise funds for the Foundation.

Anne A. Gershon, M.D.
Dr. Anne A. Gershon is a professor of pediatrics and director of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Gershon, a graduate of Smith College and Cornell University Medical College, holds an honorary doctorate in science from Smith College. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Pediatric Society, American Society for Clinical Investigation, Infectious Disease Society of America and the American Society for Virology. Dr. Gershon is a past member of the Council of the Infectious Disease Society of America, the Committee on Infectious Diseases of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is a member of the editorial boards of The American Journal of Clinical Perinatology, The Journal of Infectious Diseases, and Clinical Infectious Diseases.
